International theatre festival Cultura Nova aims to relate to developments in Heerlen and the Parkstad area. Theatre makers, artists and theatre companies are asked to make a connection with themes that are currently playing in the region, such as transition, shrinkage and identity. Hans Mommaas and Airan Berg will discuss this with theatre makers and artists from the 2019 edition of the festival.
Moderator Hans Mommaas is director of the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and Professor of Regional Sustainability Governance at Tilburg University; he is also a member of the Supervisory Board of the Cultura Nova foundation. Airan Berg is a director, programmer, intendant and advisor. He lives in Vienna and Istanbul. In addition to his work for several theatres, he also specialises in large-scale participatory projects. He is one of the initiators of the European project ‘Centriphery’, in which Cultura Nova also participates.
