Ambient festival IN A ROOM (16+)
(h)ear / Intro in Situ
Ambient festival IN A ROOM presents Dirk Serries (BE), Distant Fires Burning (BE), Anne Wellmer (DE), and Red Magnet (NL). All four musicians have their roots in ambient, drone, and experimental music.
The name IN A ROOM is taken from the title of the seminal work ‘I am sitting in a room’ by composer, writer, and visual artist Alvin Lucier. In 1969, he used his recorded voice for the first time, including its imperfections. He then played the recording and recorded it again – a process that he repeated several times. Because the space in which he did this influenced the reproduction, over time a version emerged that was very different from the original.
The use of ambient characteristics during recording and the drone frequencies that gradually emerged are the primary components of Minimal music. During IN A ROOM, these musical components take the lead. The title also serves as a metaphor for the relative silence that has arisen during the turbulent times of the coronavirus. IN A ROOM also calls for greater calm, especially in the way people treat and interact with each other. Rest, relaxation, contemplation.
The ambient festival IN A ROOM features four artists, all of whom are deeply rooted in ambient, drone, and experimental music.
